The approaching iPhone lineup is noticeable in several ways. While analystsThe smartphone market shows that customer expectations have an impact on current sales figures. For example, Gartner’s market researchers have discovered that Huawei has overtaken Apple as the second largest smartphone maker in the world.
Huawei ranked # 2 on the smartphone charts
According to Gartner’s latest figures, Huawei closed the second quarter of 2018 with 49.8 million units sold, enough to account for 13.3 percent of the global smartphone market. Huawei’s figures are well above those of the same quarter last year, when the company delivered some 36 million units for a market share of 9.8 percent.
With the recent success, the Chinese smartphone maker is ahead of Apple on the second position of the smartphone charts. The iPhone manufacturer was able to sell 44.7 million smartphones in the same period. In the same quarter last year, Apple sold 44.3 million units. Gartner estimates the current market share of Apple at 11.9 percent, which corresponds to a slight decline.
Samsung topped the charts in the second quarter with 72.3 million smartphones shipped, but declined year-on-year. The Korean technology group’s market share fell from 22.6 percent in 2017 to 19.3 percent in the last quarter.
The market is waiting
By itself, it should come as no surprise if Huawei overtakes Apple. Apple has three new iPhone models in store for next month, and reports suggest that this may be the company’s biggest release in years. Accordingly, many buyers are holding back and waiting for the new models.
The slowdown in sales, however, does not diminish Apple’s financial success. Last month, the company spoke of its best June quarter ever, with $ 53.3 billion in revenue. In fact, it was the iPhone X that claimed its position as the company’s best performer and helped raise the iPhone’s average selling price from $ 606 in the previous year to $ 724. (via)
