Samsung officially introduces the Galaxy Note 9

After the Galaxy Note 9 had made the round through the net in advance, today was the official premiere turn. The Note 9 is equipped with a 6.4-inch 2960 x 1400 Super AMOLED display and, like the previous Note models, supports a stylus. Design-wise, we move in the well-known Note 8 territory.

More power with water cooling and a familiar camera

Inside the Galaxy Note 9, the processor uses the Exynos 9810 with eight cores, 6 to 8 GB RAM, two AKG speakers and a 4,000 mAh battery. One noteworthy innovation is a special water cooling system designed to assist the processor in the heat of battle.

Samsung uses the same 12 megapixel dual main camera we know from the Galaxy S9. Thus, the well-known intelligent camera function is not missing, with which the device knows what is in front of the lens. The front houses an 8 megapixel camera. Furthermore, the smartphone offers protection class IP68 and is therefore resistant to dust and water.

Slightly larger, S-Pen as remote control and DeX without docking station

The touch 9’s screen slightly increases from the 8 note from 6.3 to 6.4 inches. When it comes to resolution, everything stays the same with 2960 x 1440 pixels. An interesting idea is that the supplied S-Pen is Bluetooth-enabled and can be used as a remote control for the device’s camera. Samsung has developed an SDK that allows developers to integrate the stylus pen into their applications.

The Note 9 supports DeX, Samsung’s feature that makes it possible to use a smartphone with a mouse and keyboard as a desktop computer on a monitor. The Note 9 DeX implementation does not require its own dock, just a USB-C to HDMI adapter. The smartphone has a USB-C port, a headphone jack, a front iris scanner and a fingerprint scanner located on the back of the device. Although Google has just introduced Android 9, the Note 9 will ship with Android 8.1.

Price and availability

The entry-level model of the Galaxy Note 9 with 128 GB of memory and 6 GB of RAM will cost 999 euros. A version with 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage space should be available for € 1,249. The Note 9 is available either in black with a black S-Pen or in blue with a yellow S-Pen. Pre-orders will be accepted immediately, the device will be delivered from August 24, 2018.
