Apple extends free repair program for the iPad Smart Keyboard

As Apple insider reported, there may occasionally be problems with the Smart Keyboard of the first generation for the iPad Pro in the variants 9.7 and 12.9 inches. These problems should now be dealt with by an extended repair program from Apple, with which the owner of a defective Smart Keyboard will receive a free repair or replacement. The warranty extension applies to affected smart keyboards within three years from the date of purchase.

Warranty extension for the Smart Keyboard

Owners of a smart keyboard for the first generation of the 9.7 and 12.9 inch iPad Pro can receive a free repair or replacement as long as the accessory suffers from one of several specific problems. These include sensor and magnetic connector issues, stuck or unresponsive keys, and data connection issues.

Normally, the Smart Keyboard is covered by a one-year limited warranty, which is likely to be long gone by many first generation Pro buyers. For the current program, the warranty for the listed defects has been extended to three years. Apple already had a similar one last summer repair program started. Affected customers can use the Apple Support page to request a repair or make an appointment with the Genius Bar.

Apple may need to refresh the Smart Keyboard this summer when the Rumors confirm via an iPad ID equipped with Face ID.
