Free repair for battery problems

In a service policy, Apple told Apple Store and authorized service provider staff that “Some Apple Watch Series 2 devices may not turn on or have a swollen battery under some conditions. Apple will repair legitimate devices for free, “said document numbered SN4534 on Apple’s internal GSX portal.

It also states: “Apple will approve the eligible device coverage for three years from the original date of purchase.” The policy has been issued, at least in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe.

Swollen battery in the Apple Watch Series 2

A swollen battery can prevent you from turning on an Apple Watch or lifting the display. In recent months, affected users have shown their Apple Watch in Apple’s Support Communities. An example you see in our article picture. However, the majority of the incidents involved first generation devices released in 2015.

However, the new letter does not refer to the first model. For the first Apple Watch exists a separate regulation, which already in the last year was introduced by Apple. Furthermore, the Apple Watch Series 1, Apple Watch Series 2 and all 38 mm models are excluded from the program. Thus, only the 42 mm models of the Apple Watch Series 2 are eligible.

Affected customers can use the Apple Support page to make an appointment with the Genius Bar at an Apple Store or Apple-authorized service provider. The battery change is carried out in an external Apple Repair Center.
